It is a social club recognized by, but not sponsored by, the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
The first meeting was held in February 1941. At that time there were 168 members from many states. At one time there were members from Germany, England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand as well as hundreds from the United States, including Alaska.
The goal is to establish an opportunity for oldsters of the mineral, gem and fossil collecting hobby to communicate with others of like interests.
Also to promote good fellowship through field trips, to support local shows and Federation shows.
